Hartford Crashes

In collaboration with Tony Cherolis from TransportHartford initiative, Picturedigits created an interactive heatmap of Hartford car crashes in 2015—2020 to determine streets and intersections that need special attention, either via redesign or targeted traffic enforcement.

Interface

The control panel allows anyone to adjust the heatmap to look specifically at certain time periods and types of crashes. For example, interstates and local roads have different traffic enforcement and design control, and therefore they can be looked at separately.

A user can zoom all the way in to see the discrete crash datapoints. Clicking on a datapoint will pull up an info box with the crash ID number, the severity of the crash, and if available, the crash report diagram.

Data

The crash data was obtained from the University of Connecticut Crash Data Repository.
